TOP Welcomes Church Leaders

On Friday 31st May TOP was honoured to host the church leaders Father Austin Hughes (The Olton Friary), Reverend Dominic Wright (St Margaret’s Church) and his wife, Vicar Tim Fergusson (The Olton Baptist Church) and Carol and John Andrews, who were long-running and active members of the Olton United Reformed Church.

After initial introductions and some beautiful Quran recitation.  The TOP Academy children confidently led us through the evening’s proceedings with an enthusiastically performed song entitled ‘Months in Islam’ followed by a personal extract from Safiya (see below), a presentation on fasting and a heartfelt closing supplication that led us nicely to sunset and the break of fast. We shared delicious homemade food, rich and diverse recipes and flavours; a true representation of our TOP Team. This was an enjoyable evening of socialising and building bridges and hopefully the start of many more to come.

Saying of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him):

‘O People, spread peace, feed people, strengthen the ties of kinship and stand in prayer when others are asleep and you will enter paradise in peace.’

What TOP means to me

I am extremely privileged to be able to regard TOP community as a second family. TOP has always been there to support and guide me ever since I was one. Personally, I can’t imagine a life without this amazing organisation I am so proud to be a part of. This community has offered me so much from religious classes to social events.

Without my brilliant teachers, aunties, uncles and friends all formed through TOP I would not be able to deliver performances, read the holy Quran, sing, learn from stories of the Prophets, speak publicly or even make friends as easily. I owe so much to TOP and am utterly delighted to be a piece of this magnificent eye-opener.
